CIS 1.0

HW 1:
Notepad, Web browsers, Email

  1. Use Notepad to write a short description of yourself - your background, interests, whatever. Save the file and hand in a printed copy.

  2. Go to http://www.census.gov
  3. Visit each of these sites and describe what they offer (very briefly - 1 or 2 sentences)
    1. Site #1
    2. Site #2
    3. Site #3
    4. Site #4
    5. Site #5
    6. Site #6

  4. Save a bookmark to the assignment page for cis 1.0. In Netscape Navigator, you click on "Bookmarks" which is on the left side next to Location. Do this using Internet Explorer also, by clicking on "Favorites" on the top menu bar, and then choosing "add to favorites".

  5. Using Netscape Navigator, click on the Search icon (the spotlight picture) on the top of the page. Look up some piece of information of interest to you, and report on what you find. Also look around on the initial search page.

  6. Now use the "search" icon in Internet Explorer (the magnifying glass icon) and look up the *same* information.

  7. Fill out and submit the student survey.

  8. Email:
    1. Send your instructor an email message telling him/her about yourself - your background, your interests, your major, your plans - whatever you like. Be sure to sign your name!
    2. Send a message to a friend in the class. Do NOT send a message to the course mailing list for this - send a message to ONE person in the class.
    3. Reply to a message sent to you (either a message from your instructor, or from a friend). NOTE: You cannot do this until you get a message to reply to.
